Find your dream house for sale in St Lucia West Indies
Part of the Lesser Antilles, St Lucia (sometimes Saint Lucia) is an exotic, physically stunning eastern Caribbean island renowned for it’s lush, mountainous greenery, volcanic beaches, and luxury resorts and restaurants.
The combination of unspoiled white sand stretches around the island’s perimeter and the sprawling exotic rain-forest throughout the core makes St Lucia one of the more standout and unusual of the Caribbean isles, and so it’s perhaps no wonder that people so often express fervent interest in a holiday house for sale in St Lucia, West Indies.
St Lucia is world-revered for it’s many natural beauty spots and a relaxed pace of life. The two volcanic plugs known as The Pitons for example, located on the island’s west coast, form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Standing at around 3,000 feet above sea level, the Pitons are one of the island’s many famous attractions, and the namesake of St Lucia’s locally brewed beer. The compact layout of the island means that amenities and sites of natural beauty are never far from St Lucia beach villas.
At Waterfront Portfolio, we have a number of stunning properties in some of the most picturesque parts of the island, including Gros Islet Village, Marigot Bay, Castries, Canaries and Soufriere (home to The Pitons and the world’s only drive-in volcano).
St Lucia Property for Sale, apartments & houses in St Lucia to buy
Home to a little over 173,000 permanent residents, St Lucia dates back to 200 A.D., with the Europeans first discovering the island in the 16th century.
The Dutch were the first settlers to start a camp, opening what is now known as Vieux Fort. The English were soon to arrive, followed by the French, who wanted control of the island for themselves. Their arrival was an event that sparked 14 Anglo-French wars and lead to the island changing hands several times. This period of British and French rule (they each held the island seven times) has impacted the legacy of St Lucia, evident in everything from settlement names to the presence of Creole dialect and the use of French and English spoken throughout.
The abundance of natural rain-forest and waterfalls in St Lucia has prohibited mass development, meaning the island has maintained feelings of exclusivity and privacy. The island’s capital is Castries, home to a third of the island’s population along with a bustling cruise port that routinely welcomes large liners carrying visitors to the island. From here, it is also possible for locals to find water taxis for easy island hopping, and excursions out to sea to indulge in activities such as reef-diving, snorkeling and scuba diving.
