The main island of St Vincent is roughly 18 miles long, and the capital of Kingstown serves as the main commercial hub and port of the islands.

The city was founded by French settlers in 1722, the while today the official language is English, the distinctive Vincentian Creole can still be heard in conversation. The island’s active volcano La Soufrière ("The Sulfurer") towers over St Vincent, standing at 1,234m.
